Native egg parasitoids on Leptoglossus occidentalis Heidemann (Hemiptera: Coreidae) in Spain: Potential biological control agents?

چکیده

Leptoglossus occidentalis Heidemann (Heteroptera: Coreidae), commonly known as western conifer seed bug (WCSB), is an invasive pest in the Mediterranean, where it has been associated with decline of Pinus pinea L. kernel production. A biological control WCSB populations native egg parasitoids may reduce economic losses. With purpose to obtaining masses laid situ bags WCSB, adults were placed, for three consecutive years, a clone bank, and 1 year, pine forest Central Spain. To estimate impact parasitoid species on population, four parasitism indexes calculated. The activity period was estimated two years bank through visual monitoring. Two found eggs: Ooencyrtus pityocampae (Mercet) (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) obscurus Encyrtidae). latter represents new finding eggs. In discovery efficiency masses, rate eggs, host population exploitation significantly higher O. than pityocampae. forest, index values also obscurus, but significant differences not by species. reduced 6.2%, down 19.6%, while 1.0%, 11.5%. Predated eggs recorded both experimental sites low amounts. Both could be proposed agents (BCA) programme (BCP) Europe after measuring their effectiveness laboratory assessments.

The Coreidae of Honduras (Hemiptera: Coreidae)

BACKGROUND Coreidae bugs are mostly sap-sucking insects feeding on a variety of plants. Despite their abundance and economic importance in Honduras there is little information on the species, their distribution and affected crops. Since knowledge of pest species allows for better management of crops, we aimed to document the diversity of this economically important group. Specimens from four en...

Impact of Two Ant Species on Egg Parasitoids Released as Part of a Biological Control Program

Biological control using Trichogramma pretiosum Riley (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae), an egg parasitoid wasp, was tested in Uruguay to reduce populations of lepidopteran pests on soybeans. It was observed that the commercial parasitoid dispensers, which were made of cardboard, were vulnerable to small predators that succeeded in entering and emptying the containers of all the eggs parasitized...

Biological control of Indianmeal moth (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) on finished stored products using egg and larval parasitoids.

Biological control using hymenopteran parasitoids presents an attractive alternative to insecticides for reducing infestations and damage from the Indianmeal moth, Plodia interpunctella (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), in retail and warehouse environments. We examined the potential for using combinations of the egg parasitoid Trichogramma deion Riley (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae), and the ...

Biological Control: Insect Pathogens, Parasitoids, and Predators

Stored product insects cause millions of dollars per year in losses in stored wheat. Traditionally, storedproduct pest management has relied on chemicals to control insects. In some cases, pest management has been improved by applying chemicals only when needed. An increasing effort is being made to reduce or eliminate pesticide residues in the food supply. This trend has increased since the in...
